ALISON WREN

Alison Wren is a contemporary ceramicist based on the outskirts of Sheffield, England, where she works from her peaceful garden studio. She creates elegant, wheel-thrown decorative and functional stoneware designed primarily for domestic spaces.

With a degree in Ceramic Design from Staffordshire University and foundational training alongside studio potters in Dorset and Sheffield, Alison spent over 15 years working in art galleries before returning full-time to her own clay practice. Her work is deeply rooted in a love for pared-back design, seeking stillness, balance, and clean proportions.

Driven by a belief in patient, attentive craftsmanship, Alison produces small batches of tableware alongside one-off decorative vessels. Her quiet visual language is influenced by natural landscapes—such as wide open spaces, the sea, sky, sand, and pebbles—as well as the subtle, harmonic tones found in the paintings of Giorgio Morandi. By pairing a variety of tactile clays with a soft, subdued colour palette of slate, pebble, and sand glazes, her finished pieces let their elegant forms take centre stage.

The artworks shown here are a selection of those featured at The Alchemist Gallery. We invite you to visit us in Sheffield to explore more of this artist's work and experience the collection in person.
