LUCY BAXENDALE

Lucy Baxendale is a contemporary ceramic artist and illustrator based in Herefordshire, whose imaginative porcelain sculptures explore the relationship between drawing and three-dimensional form. Her distinctive creations transform spontaneous sketches into intricate, characterful objects, often combining playful imagery with unexpected details and a sense of storytelling.

Lucy's creative process begins with automatic drawing, allowing shapes, characters and patterns to emerge intuitively before translating them into porcelain. Working predominantly by hand, she builds, carves and layers delicate forms, exploring the boundaries of what the material can achieve. Her increasingly ambitious sculptures incorporate elements of light, movement and interaction, inviting viewers to engage with the work and discover their own interpretations.

A selected member of the Craft Potters Association, Lucy was recognised as an Emerging Artist by Ceramics Monthly in 2022. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, reflecting her distinctive approach to contemporary ceramics and her continuing exploration of the possibilities of porcelain.
