PAULA DUNN

Paula Dunn is a contemporary landscape painter based in Yorkshire whose atmospheric paintings explore the emotional connection between people, place and the natural world. Inspired by walking through the landscape, her work captures the shifting qualities of weather, light and memory, often hovering between representation and abstraction.

Working predominantly with oils and cold wax, Paula builds richly layered surfaces through an intuitive process of applying, scraping and revealing paint. Her distinctive approach combines expressive mark-making, subtle colour relationships and varied textures to evoke the atmosphere of a place rather than simply recording its appearance. Her paintings invite viewers to bring their own memories and interpretations to the landscape.

Paula's work is held in private collections internationally and has featured in the award-winning anthology Waymaking. In 2025, she published Atmospheric Landscapes: Using Oils and Cold Wax with Crowood Press, sharing the techniques and creative philosophy behind her practice. Her work has also been selected for exhibitions including Wales Contemporary and ING Discerning Eye.

The artworks shown here represent a selection of those featured at The Alchemist Gallery. We invite you to visit us in Sheffield to discover more of Paula's work and experience the collection in person.
