SUE MUNDY
Sue Mundy is a British ceramic artist based near Reading, Berkshire, creating distinctive hand-built sculptural forms inspired by the natural world. Her work explores the relationship between organic structures, movement and the expressive possibilities of clay, transforming familiar references into elegant, abstract sculptures.
Working predominantly with white stoneware, Sue uses traditional slab-building and hand-coiling techniques to construct her pieces. Drawing inspiration from trees, bones, undulating landscapes and the human form, she creates sculptures characterised by flowing contours, intricate textures and carefully considered openings. Her approach celebrates the physical qualities of clay, allowing each piece to develop its own distinctive presence.
Having studied ceramics at North Staffordshire University, Sue has established an extensive career as both an artist and educator. She is a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association and serves on its Governing Council. Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK, including at Contemporary Ceramics in London, while her teaching includes courses at West Dean College.
The artworks shown here represent a selection of those featured at The Alchemist Gallery. We invite you to visit us in Sheffield to discover more of Sue's work and experience the collection in person.
