TIM COPSEY
Tim Copsey is a British ceramic artist based in the Peak District, creating distinctive sculptural vessels inspired by the rugged landscapes, geological formations and changing seasons of the Pennines. His work occupies the space between functional pottery and sculpture, combining organic forms, rich textures and unexpected finishes that reflect the elemental forces of nature.
Working through a combination of wheel-throwing, coiling, slab-building and carving, Tim embraces experimentation and the unpredictable transformations of clay through firing. His pieces frequently incorporate locally sourced stone and minerals, while repeated wood firings and the application of glazes and precious metal lustres create complex, layered surfaces. The resulting works balance raw, earthy textures with flashes of gold and silver, reflecting both the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.
Originally trained in sculpture at Bretton Hall, Tim developed an international career in film, performance and multimedia art before returning to ceramics in the early 2000s. His work is represented in public and private collections and has been featured in Contemporary British Studio Pottery, celebrating his distinctive contribution to contemporary ceramic practice.
